Josiah's father was Josiah Buckler and his mother was Mary Allender.  His paternal grandparents are Robert Buckler and Maria White; his maternal grandparents were William Allender and Mary Jones. He had five brothers and five sisters, named Samuel, Benjamin, Joseph, James, William, Mary, Marion, Ada, Alice and Gretta.  He is the fifth youngest of the eleven children.
