Mary's father was Mr Thomas O'Callaghan and her mother was Mrs Anne Mudie. Her maternal grandparents were Mr John Mudie and Mrs Maria Stack ?. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Henry, George, Charles, Emily, Louisa and Anne. She had a half-sister named Dorothea.
