Malcolm was born on December 27th, 1904 in Kolkata, West Bengal, India and his baptism took place there on January 20th, 1905.  Malcolm's father was Mr Malcolm Walter Donald Macleod and his mother was Mrs Ethel Mabel Baxter.  His paternal grandparents were Mr Donald Macleod and Mrs Ann Catherine Heron. He had a brother named Frederick.  He was the younger of the two children.
