Frances was born in 1866 in Fosdyke, Lincolnshire, England.  Frances' father was Mr Henry Kemp and her mother was Mrs Mary Dalton.  Her maternal grandparents were Mr William Dalton and Mrs Mary Levett. She had a brother and two sisters, named Charles, Mary and Emma.  She was the second oldest of the four children.
