Thomas was born in 1723 in Little Yeldham, Essex, England and his baptism took place there on November 24th, 1723.  Thomas' father was Mr Joseph Collar and his mother was Mrs Grace Cranfield.  His paternal grandparents were Mr Simon Collar and Mrs Elizabeth NK. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Joseph, William, Sarah and Sarah. He had five half-brothers and eight half-sisters, named Peter, Simon, John, Joseph, Sarah, Mary, Mary, Sarah, Elizabeth, Mary, Elizabeth, Sarah and Hannah.
