George was born in 1864 in Fosdyke, Lincolnshire, England.  George's father was Mr Heffield Clark and his mother was Mrs Susannah Quincey.  His paternal grandparents were Mr John Clark and Mrs Mary Rosling. He had a brother and a sister, named Henry and Lavinia.  He was the oldest of the three children. He had a half-brother named Herbert.
