Franciscus was born on January 20th, 1770 in Lier.1  Franciscus' father was Antonius Carolus Gaethoffs and his mother was Maria Philippina Willick.  His paternal grandparents were Paulus Leo Gaethofs and Isabelle Van Steenwegen. He had a brother and four sisters, named Joseph Charles, Maria Francisca Joanna, Maria Theresia Joanna, Theresia Eleonora Robertina  and Joanna Francisca.  He was the third youngest of the six children.  He died at the age of 57 on April 19th, 1827 in Balen.2

‌Franciscus and Bernardina Theresia were married in a religious ceremony on December 27th, 1798 in Geel.3   They had three sons and four daughters, and also a child of unknown gender, named Henricus Philippus, Johannes Leonardus, Guillaume Jozef, Jeanne Caroline, Therese Bernardine, Therese Philippe Beatrix, Caroline Josephine Françoise and SN.
