John was born on March 1st, 1861 in Leeds, West Yorkshire..  John's father was John Alderson and his mother was Mary Walker.  His paternal grandparents were Joseph Alderson and Elizabeth Thackray; his maternal grandparents are James Walker and Jane Smith. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Henry, william, Joseph, Fred, Paul, Hannah, Elizabeth and Mary.  He was the third youngest of the nine children. He had a half-brother named James.  He died about 1903.
