George was born in 1821 in Boldre.  George's father is James Keeping and his mother was Elizabeth Hodder.  His paternal grandparents are James Keeping and Jane Lancaster. He had a brother and two sisters, named Henry, Eliza and Harriet.  He is the oldest of the four children.
