Maria was born in 1815 in Bishops Waltham.  Maria's father was James Horner and her mother was Charlotte Stone.  Her paternal grandparents were James Horner and Mary; her maternal grandparents were Edward Stone and Sarah. She had six brothers and four sisters, named James, John, Henry, Charles, George, William, Charlotte, Ann, Charlotte and Sarah.  She was the third oldest of the eleven children. She had a half-brother named William.  She died at the age of 82 in 1897 in Swanmore.
