George was born in 1856 in Porthleven.  George's father is Richard Eddy and his mother is Mary Ann Pascoe.  His paternal grandparents are William Eddy and Elizabeth Polmeer; his maternal grandfather is Peter Pascoe and his maternal grandmother was Ann Kitchen. He has two brothers and two sisters, named Charles, Richard, Elizabeth and Nancy.  He is the second oldest of the five children.
