George was born in 1869.  George's father was William George_I of_the_Hellenes Oldenburg and his mother was Olga Constantinovna.  His paternal grandparents were Christian_IX and Louise of_Hesse-Cassel; his maternal grandparents were Constantine Nikolaievitch of_Russia and Elizabeth Alexandra of_Saxe-.  He was the second of eight children.  He had four brothers and three sisters, named Constantine_I, Nicholas of_Greece, Andrew of_Greece, Christopher, Alexandra of_Greece, Mary and Olga.  He died at the age of 88 in 1957.
