Ferdinand was born in 1730.  Ferdinand's father was Frederick William_I and his mother was Sophia Dorothea Hanover.  His paternal grandparents were Frederick_I and Sophia Charlotte; his maternal grandparents were George_I Hanover and Sophia Dorothea of_Celle.  He was the youngest of thirteen children.  He had six brothers and six sisters, named Frederick Louis, Frederick William, Frederick_II the_Great, Louis Charles William, Augustus William, Henry, Charlotte Albertine, Frederica Louise, Philippine Charlotte, Sophia, Louise Ulrika and Anna Amelia.  He died at the age of 83 in 1813.
