Edward's father was Frederick_V of_Palatinate and his mother was Elizabeth Stuart.  His maternal grandparents were James_I Stuart and Anne of_Denmark.  He is the sixth of eleven children.  He had five brothers and five sisters, named Frederick Henry, Rupert of_Cumberland, Charles Louis, Maurice, Philip, Sophia, Elizabeth of_Hervorden, Louisa Hollandine of_Maubisson, Henrietta Maria and Charlotte.
