Charles Philip's father was Ernest Augustus of_Brunswick and his mother was Sophia Hanover.  His maternal grandparents were Frederick_V of_Palatinate and Elizabeth Stuart.  He was the sixth of seven children.  He had five brothers and a sister, named George_I, Ernest Augustus, Frederick Augustus, Maximilian William, Christian and Sophia Charlotte.  He died in 1690.
