Horace was born on March 7th, 1898 in Brompton, UK.1   Horace's father was Charles Brown and his mother was Ada Mary Cowling (Brown).  His paternal grandparents were John Brown and Jane Gamble (Brown); his maternal grandparents were Mr Prince Cowling and Ada. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Reginald, Austin, Vincent, Charles, Hilda, Flora, Adelaide and Iris.
