Austin was born on February 27th, 1904.  Austin's father was Charles Brown and his mother was Ada Mary Cowling (Brown).  His paternal grandparents were John Brown and Jane Gamble (Brown); his maternal grandparents were Mr Prince Cowling and Ada. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Horace, Reginald, Vincent, Charles, Hilda, Flora, Adelaide and Iris.
