John Wolf was born on February 5th, 1849 in Lilienthal, Germany.  John Wolf's father was Hans Hinrich Gropper II and his mother was Margaretha Charlotte Schroder.  His paternal grandparents were Hans Hinrich Gropper and Christina Magdalene Schlapkohl.  He was an only child.

John Wolf and Henrietta were married Religious Marriage. They had six sons and five daughters, named Fred, John Henry, William, Emil, Herman, Ernest, Minnie, Annie, Emma, Alvena and Clara.
