Robert Kempthorne was born about 1882 in Cleator Moor, Cumberland.  Robert Kempthorne's father was Emmanuel Tyacke Vincent and his mother was Elizabeth Jane Roberts.  He has three brothers and two sisters, named Henry, Francis Newton, John Hedley, Priscilla and Annie.  He is the fifth oldest of the six children.  He had three half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Emmanuel, Joseph, Edgar, Hannah and Emily.
