Andrew Harkness was born on April 6th, 1915 in Seaton, Cumberland.  Andrew Harkness' father is William Ritchie and his mother is Jane Harkness.  He had four brothers and four sisters, named Walter, John, Henry Harkness, Lindow, Florence, Isabella, Rachel and Jane.  He is the seventh oldest of the nine children.
