Robert was born in June 1861 in Bristol St Philips, Glos.  Robert's father was Robert Groves and his mother is Eliza Bennett.  His maternal grandparents were John Bennett and Ann.  He has two brothers and a sister, named Richard, William and Mary.  He is the oldest of the four children.  He has a half-sister named Sarah A.
