Lambert was born on November 27th, 1908. Lambert 's father was Nicolaas Johannes (NJ) van Blerk and his mother was Barbara Johanna Colijn. His paternal grandparents were Nicolaas Johannes van Blerk and Maria Magdalena Auret. He had two brothers and five sisters, named Hugh, Leslie, Johanna, Ivy, Hester, Mary and Helen. He was the second youngest of the eight children. He died at the age of 69 in 1977.
