Hester  was born on March 10th, 1809.  Hester 's father was Rogier Bernhadus van Blerk and her mother was Martha Basina Dorothea.  Her paternal grandfather was Rogier Bernhadus van Blerk and her paternal grandmother is Hilletjie Giebelaar. She had four brothers and eight sisters, named Johannes, Frederik , Marthinus, Bastiaan, Alida, Hendrik, Louisa, Carolina, Orgina, Johanna, Wilhelmina and Rosina.  She was the sixth oldest of the thirteen children.  She died at the age of 21 in 1830.
