Her paternal grandparents were Johannes Petrus (Jan) van Blerk and Geertruida Elizabeth Louw (van Blerk); her maternal grandparents were Jacobus Adriaan Louw and Rachel Elizabeth (Louw). She had four brothers and six sisters, named Jacobus Adrijan Rozier, Simon Petrus, Petrus Gerhardus Louw, Jan Albertus, Johanna Petronella, Jacomina Aletta, Anna Magrita, Cornelia Johanna Jacoba, Martha Berrenda and Catharina Christina. She had an adopted brother named Gerhadus. She had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Nicolaas Philip, Philip Petrus and Hester Margaretha.-
