George was born on March 23rd, 1796 in Sunderland, Durham, England and his baptism took place on April 24th, 1796 in Holy Trinity, Sunderland, Durham, England.1   George's father is David Reay and his mother is Hannah (Ann) Hazard.  His paternal grandparents are Cuthbert Reay and Isabel Mitchell; his maternal grandparents are Robert Hazard and Ann Johnson. He had six brothers and three sisters, named Isabella, Robert, David, James, Giles, Cuthbert, Ann, Mary and Hannah.
