Laben was born in 1770.  Laben's father was William Andrews and his mother was Hannah Holladay.  His paternal grandparents were Robert Andrew and Sarah Anders. He had six brothers and three sisters, named Mark, John, Henry, Starling, William, Archibald, Elizabeth, Patsy and Jennie.  He was the oldest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 72 in 1842.
