Nipper was born in 1752.  Nipper's father was William Adams and his mother was Mary Baker Copenhaver.  His paternal grandparents were Benjamin Adams and Agnes Ezell. He had six brothers and a sister, named William, Thomas, Jesse, George, Mose, Stephen, Sarah and John.  He was the third oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 28 in 1780.
