John was born in December 1829.  John's father was John Quincy Adams and his mother was Mary Shell.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Adams and Mary Lynn. He had four brothers and two sisters, named William, John, James, Lynn, Lucinda and Malinda.  He was the oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 71 on April 5th, 1901.
