William was born in 1907.  William's father was John  Edwards and his mother was Mattie Florence Holder.  His maternal grandparents were John Pryor Holder and Melinda Calander (cassie) Martin. He had a brother and four sisters, named Lee, Lena, Annie, Ruby and Laura. He had a half-brother named Eddie.
