Ruby was born in 1923.  Ruby's father was John  Edwards and her mother was Mattie Florence Holder.  Her maternal grandparents were John Pryor Holder and Melinda Calander (cassie) Martin. She had two brothers and three sisters, named William, Lee, Lena, Annie and Laura. She had a half-brother named Eddie.
