Jane was born in October 1743.  Jane's father was Walter Staple and her mother was Mary Skewes.  Her maternal grandfather was Digory Skewes and her maternal grandmother is <Unknown>. She had four brothers and four sisters, named William, Walter, Richard, Martin, Anne, Mary, Eleanor and Elizabeth.  She was the second youngest of the nine children.
