Jeremiah was born in October 1808.  Jeremiah's father was Richard Staple and his mother was Grace Jose.  His paternal grandparents were Walter Staple and Hannah Sadler. He had four brothers and a sister, named Richard, Martin, Henry, Richard and Betsy.  He was the youngest of the six children.
