Peter was born in June 1718.  Peter's father was Richard Skewes and his mother was Mary James.  His paternal grandparents were Richard Skewes and Bridget Williams. He had three brothers and a sister, named Thomas, Henry, John and Elizabeth.  He was the second youngest of the five children. He had a half-brother and two half-sisters, named Richard, Jane and Ursula.
