Mathew was born in December 1773.  Mathew's father was Digory Skewes and his mother was Margaret Spargo.  His paternal grandparents were Martin Skewes and Mary Coad; his maternal grandparents are Edmund Spargo and <Unknown>. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Digory, Peter, Peter, Catherine, Mary, Marjory and Marjory.  He was the second youngest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 64 on March 26th, 1838.
