Martin was born in October 1810.  Martin's father was Richard Skewes and his mother was Agnes Jeffrey.  His paternal grandfather is Richard Skewes and his paternal grandmother was Jane Robins. He had five brothers and two sisters, named William, Richard, John, Mathew, Thomas, Theresa and Sarah .  He died at the age of 70 on August 20th, 1881.
