Barbara was born in 1924.  Barbara's father was Dan Ross and her mother was Margaret McKenzie Campbell.  Her paternal grandparents were Donald Ross and Jessie Cormack; her maternal grandparents were Archibald Campbell and Barbara Mowat.  She had six brothers and a sister, named Archibald, Donny, George, John, Andrew, Willie and Jessie.  She was the sixth oldest of the eight children.
