Catherine was born in 1877.  Catherine's father is James Manson and her mother is Isabella Smith.  Her paternal grandparents are William Manson and Maria MacKay; her maternal grandparents are Nichol Smith and Catherine Banks.  She has two brothers and two sisters, named William, James, Maria and Elizabeth.  She is the oldest of the five children.
