Robert was born in 1850.  Robert's father is George Oman and his mother is Harriet MacKay.  His paternal grandparents are Wiliam Oman and Elizabeth MacKenzie; his maternal grandparents are George MacKay and Ann Matheson.  He had two brothers and two sisters, named William, James, Ann and Isabella.  He is the third oldest of the five children.
