Catherine was born in 1876.  Catherine's father was Andrew Mowat and her mother was Elizabeth Reid.  Her paternal grandparents were John Mowat and Barbara MacKay.  She had four brothers and four sisters, named John, Donald, Andrew, Hugh, Hughina, Barbara, Elizabeth and Jessie.  She was the seventh oldest of the nine children.
