Catherine was born in 1812. Catherine's father was Allan MacQuarie and her mother was Sarah (Marian) MacArthur.  Her paternal grandparents are Alexander MacQuarie and Marion MacArthur.  She had two brothers and three sisters, named Lachlan, John, Margaret, Mary and Anne.  She was the youngest of the six children.  She died at the age of 71 in 1883.
