Catherine was born in 1843.  Catherine's father was William Lawson and her mother was Ann Seath.  Her paternal grandparents were William Lawson and Catharine Chalmers; her maternal grandparents were Alexander Seath and Christina Wilson.  She had four brothers and two sisters, named William, Alexander, John, Andrew, Christina and Ann.  She was the second oldest of the seven children.
