Nancy was born in 1899.  Nancy's father was John A. Smith and her mother was Mary Jane Sexton (Smith). She had five brothers and six sisters, named Willie, John, Oliver, Harvey, Harland, Solittice, Susan, Frances, Lona, Fanny and Vadie.  She was the fifth youngest of the twelve children.
