Gerrit Bartszn was born in 1685 in Achttienhoven and his baptism took place on February 1st, 1685 in Westbroek.1 2  Gerrit Bartszn's father was Bart Gerritszn van Zypveld and his mother was Cuijntje Adriaensdr van Schay.  His paternal grandparents were Gerrit Aartszn van Zypveld and Merrichien Bartsdr N.N.; his maternal grandparents were Adriaan Walingszn van Schay and Neeltje Claesdr N.N.. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Jacob Bartszn, Arie Bartszn, Gerrit Bartszn, Niesje Bartsdr, Neeltje Bartsdr and Marrigje Bartsdr.  He is the youngest of the seven children.
