Jan Willemszn was born in May 1647 in Rotterdam and his baptism took place there on May 26th, 1647.1  Jan Willemszn's father was Willem Michielszn Tangenaer and his mother was Jannetje Danielsdr Bavijer. He had five brothers and two sisters, named Bartolmees Willemszn, Jan Willemszn, Isack Willemszn, Daniël Willemszn, Daniël Willemszn, Jannetge Willemsdr and Aeltge Willemsdr.  He was the third oldest of the eight children.
