Maarten was born in 1763 in Dussen and his baptism took place there on May 15th, 1763 conducted by Reverend Hubertus Hoevenaar.1   His godmother was Willemke Teunisdr Schouten. Maarten's father was Rombout Willemszn Kindt and his mother was Grietje van der Meijden.  His paternal grandfather was Willem Aertse Bastiaenszn Kindt and his paternal grandmother is Huijbertje Rommen van Anker; his maternal grandfather was Tieleman Janszn van der Meijden and his maternal grandmother is Neeltje Maertensdr van Rossum. He had five brothers and two sisters, and also a sibling of unknown gender, named Tileman, Willem, Tileman, Johannis, Aart, Huijbertje, Neeltje and N.N..
