Hessel Janszn was born in January 1709 in Veen and his baptism took place there on January 10th, 1709 conducted by minister Aegid Beverlo.1 2  Hessel Janszn's father was Jan Theuniszn Camerman and his mother was Eeltie Gerritsdr Kamerman.  His paternal grandfather was Teunis Arienszn Camerman and his paternal grandmother is Mariken Maertensdr Back den Hopmeter; his maternal grandparents were Gerrit Arienszn Camerman and Eeltien Hesselsdr van Gameren. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Teunis Janszn, Gerrit Janszn, Arien Janszn, Teuntie Jansdr, Geriken Jansdr, Eeltie Jansdr, Eeltie Jansdr and Marie Jansdr.  He was the sixth oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 68 on July 2nd, 1777.3
