Gerrit Janszn was born in April 1707 in Veen and his baptism took place there on April 24th, 1707.1 2  Gerrit Janszn's father was Jan Theuniszn Camerman and his mother was Eeltie Gerritsdr Kamerman.  His paternal grandfather was Teunis Arienszn Camerman and his paternal grandmother is Mariken Maertensdr Back den Hopmeter; his maternal grandparents were Gerrit Arienszn Camerman and Eeltien Hesselsdr van Gameren. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Teunis Janszn, Hessel Janszn, Arien Janszn, Teuntie Jansdr, Geriken Jansdr, Eeltie Jansdr, Eeltie Jansdr and Marie Jansdr.  He was the fourth oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 65 on July 10th, 1772 in Veen.1
