Jacoba was born in January 1865 in Brakel.1  Jacoba's father was Jacob Stevenszn van Balen and her mother is Neeltje van Wijgerden.  Her paternal grandparents are Steven van Balen and Berbera Jansdr Hack. She had a brother and two sisters, named Dirk Aart, Lena Artje and Aartje.  She was the youngest of the four children.  She died at 6 months old on July 31st, 1865 in Brakel.1
