Mahalaxmi's father is Talakchand Otamchand and her mother is Motibai Bhikha.  Her paternal grandparents are Otamchand Narcinh and Panibai. She had three brothers and four sisters, named Amratlal [Amarethelal], Himatlal, Ratilal, Jasodabai, Nirmalabai, Tarulata [Travenibai] and Ishvari.  She is the fourth oldest of the eight children.
