Helen was born on May 16th, 1924 in Grahamstown.  Helen's father was George Baden Willis and her mother was Bertha Louise Turner.  Her paternal grandparents were George Willis and Helen (Ellen) Cinnamon. She has three sisters named Isobel Hope, Noreen and Avreen.  She is the second oldest of the four children.
